Villa Park History
|
The origin of the city comes from two subdivisions - Villa Park founded in 1908 and Ardmore founded in 1910. Shortly thereafter in 1914, the two were incorporated together as Ardmore, IL but then in 1917 the name was officially changed to the Village of Villa Park. The primary entry of residents to this founding were workers and commuters on The Aurora, Elgin and Chicago railroad stemming back to the mid 1800s. The area attracted residents interested in a 'country' home outside the hustle of nearby cities. Those who moved there were even granted incentives like apple trees or baby chicks to start their country lifestyle. As the population boomed, schools and churches were build, a newspaper was printed and community gatherings started. The Villa Park Turst & Savings Bank survived a streak of bank closures and business continued to flourish and attract more residents to the small town. Today Villa Park is home to a community over 20,000 strong.
